In a world marked by mobility, migration, globalisation and climate change, obstetric sonographers are ever more likely to come across pregnant women of very diverse backgrounds, who have crossed borders and passed through many places with a variety of endemic diseases.

Immigrants, refugees, expats and tourists may carry viral infections and parasitoses which you would not ordinarily be on the lookout for in your general practice.

Therefore, in this new series, we’ll be crossing some borders and explore the territories of ‘exotic’ congenital diseases.
